Mom Monday {Al Fresco}

Piper and I had such a magical morning this past weekend. It was one of those days where we really didn’t do anything out of the ordinary but it just felt so amazing…anyone else know what I am talking about? Well one thing we DID do that was a little different was have our kefir breakfast smoothies outside in the sunshine. It was just a little thing, but we had so much fun. It got me thinking, bringing our meals outdoors (al fresco) during these summer months can be so much fun especially with kids. So here is a little inspiration for all of you out there…get your picnic on!!

A Farmers Market Picnic…

Well this weekend was huge for me. It was the first Food to Love workshop and it was a huge hit! (photos and details to come). I also had the most amazing mother’s day! We shopped as a family at our local farmers market…then we spread a blanket out in our backyard and had the most delicious picnic.

Since we just moved to this area, this was our first time at this farmers market. It was so fabulous! Fresh eggs, homemade breads, goat cheese, peanuts, organic fruits and veggies…yum!

Piper really seemed to enjoy it as well…especially all the samples! This is one of the things I was encouraging moms to do at Food to Love…make eating fun by teaching the kids where the food comes from. Make it an exciting adventure to go to the farmers market together!

Piper enjoyed the carrots & the fresh apple sauce I made.

Her favorite though were the organic whole wheat rolls with the garlic and onion goat cheese! I felt so blessed sitting in the sunshine with my family, eating healthy, local, organic foods. Enjoying the day together. We had such a great time we decided to make this a Sunday tradition. Shop the farmers market and then have a picnic with our food treasures! I hope all you mamas had a fabulous mother’s day. Happy Mom Monday! xoxo

Mom Monday {first birthday inspirations}

I am slightly freaking out as I type this, but we are only months away now from Piper’s first birthday!!! Wow! How does this happen so fast? So I find myself starting to daydream about what I will do for her first birthday party. My first thought is to do something pink, fairy princess like. But if I am being honest, I think at this point in her life she would rather have bright colors and giraffes! So here goes…

The color palette could be pinks and bright oranges…{1} I love the idea of incorporating giraffes, she has one of Sharon Montrose’s baby giraffe prints in her room (plus the fact that she loves Sophie!)  {2} she might need a birthday crown though don’t you think? I love this from Milk Magazine I spotted on Grey likes Baby {3} I would love to create a fabric banner like this one via Project Nursery and include photos of Piper from the beginning…how adorable!?  {4} or something like this? via Dear Lizzy {5} if there is some sort of coloring art project this is the perfect way to display it! via Random Thoughts of a Supermom

{6} picnic inspired food! serve it right out of picnic baskets…maybe provide blankets for kids/families to eat on the grass together? ooh I love this idea! photo via The Sweetest Occasion {7} there will definitely be pom poms and/or confetti system inspired garlands my current obsession as you may have noticed the other day gorgeous photo via Confetti Systems {8} mini pies via Sweet and Saucy, actually I would love to make all the food miniature…seems appropriate no?  {9} DIY cupcakes presented so gorgeously!! via the Collection {10} and this tiny birthday cake with bunting flags is absolutely perfect! photo by Kallie Brynn Photography via The Sweetest Occasion I am sure my inspirations will evolve, but for right now this is my vision…what do you guys think?

Real Wedding Inspiration board {ny winery}

I am very excited to be helping plan a wedding for some close family that will take place in upstate New York at a small winery later this year. The couple is down to earth, and definitely not into the anything too “wedding-y”. But they are still looking to make the event their own. Here are some of my inspirations and ideas so far…

The groom is a home builder and craftsman, so wood details are a must! Love this tree chalk board via etsy. A unique seating chart via Green Wedding Shoes, featuring personal pictures of places the couple visited together.

The bride does not see herself in anything too traditional. This knee length frock via Once Wed is gorgeous. For accessories, this peacock feather head piece, via Style Me Pretty, is perfect for adding a hint of nature while staying chic. Love the idea of a homemade granola as a favor. via Green Wedding Shoes.

I am in love with this idea of having an Acai bar. Perfect for a morning after brunch. Genius Jesi Haack! The bride loves to bake pies, so a pie buffet, via Once Wed, is the perfect solution for dessert. Lastly, leave it to Bash Please via Design Sponge, to come up with the most perfect picnic reception. Imagine guests getting their own blankets and picnic baskets overlooking the vineyard. So rustic chic. More to come…stay tuned!

Mom Monday {food for thought}

As some of my tweeps might know I spend my mornings on my way into the office listening to TED talks. I recently listened to Jamie Oliver‘s talk and was so moved, and inspired to do something I had to share.

Jamie spoke a lot of about creating family traditions around food and eating in the home. Here are some ideas I had (some inspired by my own childhood). I think picnics are a fabulous tradition. I have such great memories of having family picnics as a child. We would shop for the food together, cook together, and then pick a special spot to enjoy our goodies. We also used to have a night a week where each person was the “chef” for the night. We could cook whatever we wanted, and I really got into it, making menus for everyone. I also think growing vegetables and herbs would create such a fun project for the family and definitely educate everyone about food. Lastly, I think farmers markets are such a fun thing, and a great way to support your local farmers. I really hope you will watch Jamie’s talk below and take some form of action in your life.

Please take a few minutes to watch Jamie’s powerful speech, it’s such an important message.

Celebrate with a Picnic

In my research for preparing a mother’s day picnic, I put together this inspiration board that could be used for Mother’s Day, a bridal shower, or any occasion really. I love the idea of celebrating with a picnic. There is something so magical about eating outdoors, in a secluded spot underneath a tree…day dreaming right now!

I just love the green centerpieces from this shoot featured on Style Me Pretty. The use of vintage mix and match glasses as vases, filled with an assortment of florals really makes these so attainable and charming. I love the quick pickles which I actually make quite a bit at home. These pickles could be such a great favor as well! And this sun tea recipe using Rooibos (my favorite caffeine free tea) would be so fun. This paper bird installation from Steven Beackly via design crush. is so whimsical, it makes me want to hang fun paper crafts from the trees.

Donna Hay is my favorite go to source for recipes and unique entertaining ideas. These prawn rolls look amazing and her idea of rubber stamping these napkins would be so adorable. Imagine using vintage napkins or hankies, stamped using fabric paint with each persons initial and then they can keep them as a favor! I absolutely LOVE these illustrations I discovered on Rock Paper Scissor. The birdcages could be such a great vibe for the invitations. I am always a fan of platters for picnics like this Mezze platter. And this idea of wrapping the bottles in gorgeous fabric is lovely.

Sunny Afternoon

Here is a visual of my mood lately…

From the top, this darling flea market print from  Skippy Designs etsy shop. I am completely smitten with this outdoor entertaining area…sigh! via Mary Ruffle. I adore vintage tins and vintage bottles, and this photo via Piewacket is perfect! This shot of vintage furniture with rubber boots atop the dresser is adorable! I love the color palette…so spring! via Mary Ruffle.

How adorable is this miniature bouquet held in the palm of ones hand! Too cute…imagine these as favors at a shower!? via Mary Ruffle. And these last divine photos of a picnic out of the back of a vintage VW bug in the midst of a field is maybe my favorite thing ever! How I wish that’s what I was doing right now!
